Course Outline

AUR20516 Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology (delivered by Morley SHS RTO 50638) is a course which has no prerequisite requirements. Students will be able to complete this school based course in two years.

This is a comprehensive start in the automotive industry. Skills taught include servicing cars, troubleshooting, dismantling and assembling engines, servicing and repairing brakes, understanding and repairing cooling systems, servicing fuel injection systems, changing tyres and wheels, servicing gearboxes, transmissions and final drives, basic electrical and general repairs on cars.

This is for students who have an interest in cars and understanding how they work and what has to be done to keep them in working order. Students who wish to become Automotive Technicians and those who have other automotive aspirations will benefit from this course.

Students will spend one day in the workshop and one day in industry each week. Industry standard safety clothing and footwear is expected of all students. Students must complete the following units to obtain AUR20516 Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology:

AURAFA003 Communicate effectively in an automotive workplace
AURASA002 Follow safe working practices in an automotive workplace
AURATA001 Identify basic automotive faults using troubleshooting processes
AURETR012 Test and repair basic electrical circuits
AURETR015 Inspect, test and service batteries
AURETR025 Test, charge and replace batteries and jump-start vehicles
AURLTJ003 Remove, inspect and refit light vehicle wheel and tyre assemblies
AURTTA004 Carry out servicing operations
AURTTB001 Inspect and service braking systems
AURTTC001 Inspect and service cooling systems
AURTTD002 Inspect and service steering systems
AURTTD004 Inspect and service suspension systems
AURTTE004 Inspect and service engines
AURTTF001 Inspect and service petrol fuel systems
AURTTJ001 Balance wheels and tyres
AURTTK002 Use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace
AURTTQ001 Inspect and service final drive assemblies
AURTTQ003 Inspect and service drive shafts
AURTTX002 Inspect and service manual transmissions
